What is the difference between "uncirculated" and "circulated" notes?

Uncirculated notes are notes that are mint condition. The general population has never handled them and their serial numbers are in sequential order.

Circulated notes are notes that are used in the general population and will look like currency that has been handled. They will not be in prefect condition and the serial numbers will not be sequential.
